The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved Rs 10 billion for the establishment of a state-of-the-art forensic lab in Peshawar. The lab will be built in the Hayatabad area of Phase 7 and will be equipped with the latest technology. Advisor to the Chief Minister for Health Dr Riaz Anwar said on Wednesday that the establishment of the lab was a priority for the government. He said that the lab would help to improve the quality of investigations and would also help to reduce the backlog of cases. Foreign experts will be hired to work in the lab, and the provincial government will also provide accommodation and security for them. The lab will have the capacity to conduct both medical and non-medical tests, including post-mortem, poison and DNA testing, firearms and fingerprints analysis. The lab is expected to be completed within two years. It will be a major boost to the criminal justice system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and will help to solve cases more efficiently. The lab is a welcome development for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It will help to ensure that justice is served in a more efficient and timely manner.
