KP granted a six-month grace period for registration of NPOsBreaking

August 03, 2023

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has granted a six-month grace period for the registration of non-profit organizations (NPOs) under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Charities Act 2019. The decision was welcomed by civil society organizations (CSOs), who said it showed the government's willingness to work with them. "We appreciate the thoughtful and supportive step taken by the Home & Tribal Affairs Department of KP," said a CSO statement. "The decision reflects the respect and support for the vital contributions these organizations make towards social cohesion and community development."

The statement said the grace period would allow NPOs to comply with the new regulations without facing legal action. "This decision balances the need for robust regulatory frameworks and the preservation of civic spaces, fostering trust and collaboration," the statement said. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Charities Act 2019 was passed in July 2019. It requires all NPOs to register with the government. The grace period will expire on January 1, 2023. The CSO statement said the government's decision was "an act of great understanding and facilitation" and showed "the government's flexible approach and eagerness to work in harmony with civil society organizations."
