KP CM forms committee to probe boat tragedy in SwatBreaking

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has constituted a high-level committee to investigate the tragic boat incident in Saifullah Lake in Swat. According to details, the Secretary of the Inter-Provincial Department, a BS-20 officer, will head the committee, and the Special Secretary of Finance will also be part of the committee. The committee will investigate the operational and technical reasons that led to the boat tragedy.

The committee will determine the availability and operations of life-saving measures, life jackets, and rescue instruments. The committee will examine the capability and expertise of the boatman. The Committee will submit its report to the provincial government within seven days. Earlier on July 1, 2026, at least five tourists were killed after a boat capsized in Saifullah Lake in the Kalam area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat district. Police initially said the boat was carrying seven people, including the boatman.

However, officials later said eight members of the same family were on board when the accident occurred. Swat District Police Officer Mohammad Omar Khan said five bodies had been recovered from the Mahodand area and that rescue teams, police, and local volunteers were continuing search efforts for the remaining missing persons. According to the police, the boatman was rescued with serious injuries and taken to the hospital for treatment.
