In a positive development, three polio workers who were kidnapped from Bannu district have been safely released following successful joint efforts by the police and local tribal elders (jirga).According to district admin on Thursday, the workers had been abducted by militants a day earlier from Jhando Khel area while they were participating in an anti-polio vaccination campaign.
Immediately after the incident, the police launched prompt action and coordinated closely with local jirga elders to devise a strategy for the safe recovery of the abducted workers. The District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu led the efforts, ensuring continuous engagement with tribal leaders.
The jirga played a crucial mediating role and through sustained negotiations along with professional police efforts, the kidnapped polio workers were safely recovered without harm. Authorities have appreciated the cooperation between law enforcement and local community leaders, emphasizing that such collaboration is vital in maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of frontline health workers.
