June 22, 2024

Chairman of the Kashmir Council of Europe (KCEU) Ali Raza Syed emphasized the pivotal role the European Union (EU) can play in achieving a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir issue. Speaking at a reception in Islamabad, Syed highlighted the EU's influential stance in global peace efforts and urged its proactive engagement in addressing the Kashmir crisis. The event, hosted by senior journalist Mohsin Raza Khan and moderated by Ali Farqan of Voice of America, drew a distinguished gathering including prominent journalists and intellectuals. Syed detailed efforts during the recent European Parliament elections to raise awareness about Kashmir, stressing the dire human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Kashmir (IIOK). "We have engaged with leaders and candidates across Europe, underscoring the longstanding unresolved nature of the Kashmir dispute and the severe conditions under Indian occupation," stated Syed. He expressed optimism in garnering support from newly elected EU members to amplify the Kashmiri voice on international platforms.

Syed reiterated that the campaign was not against the people of India but aimed at challenging India's policies and its prolonged occupation of Kashmir. He praised the ongoing million signature campaign in Europe initiated by the Kashmir Council to raise awareness about Kashmir globally. The reception also saw accolades for Syed's dedicated advocacy for Kashmiri rights in European institutions. Afzal Butt, President of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, commended Syed's unwavering commitment and lauded KCEU's significant role in spotlighting Kashmiri issues in Europe. In closing, Mohsin Raza Khan thanked Syed and attendees for their contributions, affirming the continuing impact of KCEU's efforts in advocating for Kashmir's cause at an international level. The event underscored growing international scrutiny and calls for a peaceful resolution to the longstanding Kashmir conflict.
