Karachi Bar Association (KBA) demanded the National Highway Authority (NHA) to exempt lawyers from toll tax, reported on Thursday. According to the report, Karachi Bar has issued a letter to the chairman of the NHA and requested to issue a directive in this regard. In the letter, the Karachi Bar Association said that all lawyers should be exempted from toll tax on the national highways and instructions should be issued to the staff of all toll plazas, especially Karachi and Hyderabad. The Karachi Bar Association further said in the letter that toll tax should not be charged to lawyers on showing the card of the Bar Councils and Bar Associations.
The letter said that this decision of exempting lawyers should be taken in the larger interest of the lawyers' community because the toll tax staff often misbehaves with them. It is worth mentioning that on the issue of toll tax, Karachi Bar Association's Human Rights Committee Chairman Zahid Hussain submitted a request for exemption from toll tax in the bar that was accepted and forwarded to the National Highway Authority chairman.
