February 20, 2025

Liaquat Baloch, the Deputy Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami and Secretary General of the Milli Yakjehti Council, has strongly condemned the recent gruesome murder of poor laborers in Barkhan, Balochistan.  Speaking at the Tamaal-e-Pakistan Conference in Mansoura, Baloch described the act as the "worst form of terrorism" and a national tragedy. He emphasized that the killers of innocent lives are enemies of the nation and peace, urging national leadership, state institutions, and security agencies to unite and create a national action plan to combat terrorism.

Addressing delegations of political leaders from Dir, Chitral, Buner, and Balochistan, Baloch expressed concern over the nominal state of governance in the country. He criticized the ruling elite for being subservient to the establishment and the IMF, accusing them of prioritizing their own interests by increasing extortion while ignoring the needs of the people. According to Baloch, the governments at both the provincial and central levels have failed to address the country’s deep-rooted issues.

Baloch highlighted the dire state of the economy, pointing to the closure of 33% of textile mills, the collapse of agriculture, and rising conflicts between the federation and provinces. He lamented that inflation has tripled in the past three years, questioning the government’s claims of economic development. Furthermore, Baloch argued that the lack of local government empowerment and unfair distribution of resources is exacerbating the public's dissatisfaction. He stated that the ruling classes' behavior is pushing the nation toward rebellion and anarchy.

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader called for immediate and serious measures to address the people’s concerns, stating that flashy announcements and hollow claims will no longer suffice. He advocated for an empowered local government system and a fair distribution of resources to protect civil rights. On a positive note, Baloch praised Pakistan’s successful hosting of the Champions Trophy, calling it a significant honor for the country. He also lauded the government's efforts in foiling Indian conspiracies to hinder the event.

In this context, Baloch urged Pakistan to adopt a courageous stance against India’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir and to support the Kashmiris' right to self-determination. Finally, Baloch expressed his condolences over the death of PPP Sindh leader and MNA Nawab Yousaf Talpur, describing him as a capable political leader and a staunch advocate of democratic values. Baloch noted Talpur’s unwavering political loyalty to the PPP throughout his life.
