JI Ameer warns PM ‘You won’t have airlift like Hasina Wajid"Breaking

August 29, 2024

Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami, Hafiz Naeemur Rahman, has warned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, declaring, "Hasina Wajid may have secured an airlift, but you won’t get that chance." Speaking on the country’s mounting economic and energy crisis, Hafiz Naeem criticized the government for creating conditions similar to Bangladesh, yet stressed that Jamaat-e-Islami does not intend to incite chaos that would allow the government to evade pressing public issues. Highlighting Jamaat-e-Islami’s role, he pointed out, "It has been 21 days since our agreement with the government, and if this continues for 45 days, we will hold them accountable. Our pressure has already reduced electricity rates by PKR 14 per unit in at least one province." He emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami has played a crucial role in uniting trade organizations and raising public awareness about the political family dynasties that dominate Pakistan.

Hafiz Naeem called out the Sharif family, urging them to cut down profits from their Independent Power Producers (IPPs) rather than relying on foreign investors. "Why would China or any other country withdraw when our own government refuses to reduce payments to its IPPs? The world will take you seriously if you end capacity payments," he stated. He demanded a shutdown of capacity payments amounting to billions of rupees. He further accused all political parties, including PPP, of benefiting from the IPP system. "From 2017-18, billions were consumed through income tax exemptions, and the people's wealth has been devoured by taxes. Jamaat-e-Islami is the only party raising these critical issues," he asserted, blaming PPP for the country's economic collapse.
