In letter, Saghar reminds Trump of past mediation offer on Kashmir Breaking

February 12, 2025

Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, acting chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, has expressed the hope that newly elected US President Donald Trump will fulfil his pledge, he made during his previous era, to play his role in settlement of the Kashmir dispute.   Mehmood Ahmed Saghar in a letter to the US President expressed hope that Trump's new administration will prioritize conflict resolution, particularly on the Kashmir dispute.

In the letter, Saghar mentioned how the longstanding Kashmir dispute has led to decades of unrest, rights violations and militarization of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He sought the intervention by the United States to resolve the dispute, citing Donald Trump's previous mediation offer, which he said was welcomed by Kashmiri people but rejected by India.

“Since the US has played a significant role as a co-sponsor of the historic UN resolution that guaranteed right to self-determination to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, we hope that the new administration under your dynamic leadership would make conflict resolution a priority to resolve lingering world disputes, particularly the Kashmir issue that have been cause and consequence of unrest and rights violations in the region,” the letter urged Trump.
