IHC orders retake of MDCAT exam over out-of-syllabus questionsBreaking

October 29, 2024

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has accepted a petition challenging the recent MDCAT exam for medical and dental college admissions, instructing Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University (SZAB) to conduct a new entrance test within one month. Justice Arbab Tahir of the IHC ruled in favor of the petition, following a report from the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) indicating that several questions on the MDCAT exam were out of syllabus. Earlier, Justice Salahuddin Panhwar of the Sindh High Court has directed that the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) be conducted again within four weeks, following complaints of irregularities in the examination process. Presiding over the hearing with Justice Amjad Ali Sahito, Justice Panhwar emphasized the importance of clarity for students, stating, "We cannot leave students in a state of uncertainty." The directive comes in response to multiple petitions alleging discrepancies in the MDCAT exam, with the court underscoring the need for a transparent and fair process to safeguard students’ futures.
