The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police has reportedly issued over 147,000 fine tickets to motorcyclists found riding without helmets throughout the current year. The police spokesperson on Wednesday emphasized the commitment to fostering an exemplary traffic system in the city while addressing negligence on the roads. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Islamabad, Muhammad Sarfraz Virk, commended the police force performance, highlighting the implementation of a robust campaign directed by Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO) Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan. The initiative aims to raise awareness about traffic rules among citizens. Virk stated, ;A vigorous campaign of Islamabad Capital Police had been launched as per directions of ICCPO Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan to create awareness among citizens about traffic rules.
He added that police personnel have been instructed to ensure the enforcement of traffic rules without considering the individual status. The emphasis is on demonstrating patience and politeness while issuing tickets for traffic violations. Islamabad Capital Police is utilizing all available resources to facilitate the general public, Virk affirmed, underlining the commitment to providing a safe road environment. In a plea to parents, Virk appealed not to permit their underage children to operate bikes or cars, emphasizing the importance of waiting until reaching maturity. He clarified that the issuance of traffic violation tickets by police personnel is not punitive but rather intended to ensure a secure road environment in the capital and protect the lives of the people.
