The nationwide issue of passport delays in Pakistan is nearing resolution as the government ramps up its efforts to address the crisis. In a significant move, the government has decided to import additional passport printing machines to eliminate the backlog. The Director General of Passports and Immigration has prepared and submitted the requisition to the Ministry of Interior. According to sources, the new machines, set to arrive from abroad in September, include six desktop and two e-passport machines, each capable of printing 1,000 passports per hour. Passport officials stated that the delays, which have plagued the country for over a year, are due to a shortage of paper and the limited capacity of outdated machinery.
