Govt files petition in NEPRA seeking cut in electricity tariffBreaking

After getting nod from International Monetary Fund (IMF), the federal government had forwarded an application to National Electric Power Regularity Authority (NEPRA) to reduce electricity tariff by Rs1.71 paisa per unit. All the consumers including lifeline will avail the benefit of reduction in tariff across the country. The cut in electricity tariff will be included in the electricity bills from April till June 2025. The NEPRA will review government’s petition during its meeting which will be held on April 4, 2025. 

Earlier on March 25. 2025, the government has announced plans to refund excess payments made by electricity consumers, which is expected to reduce electricity costs by 30 paisas per unit. This decision follows the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) filing for next month‘s Adjustments to Fuel Charging (FAC) to consider monthly price changes for February. The CPPA stated that a total of 6.495 billion units were bought for electricity generation in February, at a unit cost of Rs8.22.
