The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has restored the frozen bank accounts of utility stores and released salaries to employees. According to media reports, the FBR had frozen all accounts of utility stores to recover tax dues of Rs 8 billion. The utility stores had challenged the move in the Federal Tax Ombudsman and the Islamabad High Court. On October 25, the Islamabad High Court ordered the FBR to unfreeze the accounts. The FBR has since written to commercial banks to activate the accounts. Utility stores officials said that salaries have also been released.
