No hearing could be held Thursday on a petition filed by the PTI chairman who had requested the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for shifting him to the prison in Adiala [Central Jail Rawalpindi] from the Attock jail due to the non-availability of Chief Justice Amir Farooq. The court was also supposed to hear another plea concerning provision of home- cooked food to the imprisoned PTI chief who is currently serving his three-year sentence in District Jail Attock after being convicted in the famous Toshakhana case. Chief Justice Farooq had asked the Punjab government and the jail authorities with respect to the petition about the home-cooked food.
During the last hearing, the IHC chief justice had sought a report on the reason behind keeping the convicted leader in the District Jail Attock and whether he could get the home-cooked. The court had noted that there was nothing in the record which barred the prisoner from having more than one meeting a week and directed the authorities concerned that the PTI chief should be allowed to meet in relatives, friends and lawyers according to the prison rules. Moreover, the IHC had also ordered provision of prayers mat and the Holy Quran with English translation to him as well as extending the necessary medical facilities.
