A tragic roof collapse at a shop in Rahim Yar Khan has left five women dead and more than 20 people injured, officials said on Monday.The victims had gathered to collect financial assistance under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) when the structure suddenly gave way. According to the district control room, another injured woman succumbed to her injuries during treatment, raising the death toll to five.
The incident occurred in the Tabba 123P area of Rahim Yar Khan, where several women had assembled to receive relief funds. Authorities said more than 20 people were injured after being buried under the debris when the roof of the shop collapsed.Following the incident, Zaheer Anwar Jappa, Deputy Commissioner of Rahim Yar Khan, took immediate notice of the tragedy.
On his instructions, an emergency was declared at Sheikh Zayed Hospital, and doctors along with paramedical staff were called in to handle the influx of injured patients.Rescue teams quickly reached the site to assist those trapped under the rubble. Officials confirmed that teams from Rescue 1122, Edhi Foundation, and other relief organisations are actively participating in the rescue and relief operation.
Injured victims were shifted to nearby hospitals where they are receiving medical treatment.According to the district administration spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Anwar Jappa is personally supervising the rescue and relief efforts. Authorities say immediate medical assistance is being provided to the injured as rescue teams continue to clear debris at the site.
