October 03, 2023

Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry could not be indicted Tuesday by a district and sessions court of Islamabad in the case of inciting the government employees to sedition. Fawad Chaudhry appeared in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra. Approver Faisal Chaudhary and prosecutor Khanzada Khan also appeared in the court. Fawad Chaudhary filed an acquittal plea in the court through his lawyer Faisal Chaudhary. “The case against me has been made on political grounds. There is no evidence in the case, nor are the provisions in the FIR applicable,” Fawad Chaudhry stated in the petition.

“Evidence of basic nature could not be produced in the challan. The plaintiff is an employee of the election commission. The employee’s statement is not included to support the statement,” he added. “The record does not show that the speech incited or spread hatred. The court should accept the plea of acquittal in this case. The indictment cannot be announced,” he stated. The court issued a notice to the parties in the case and adjourned the hearing till October 23.
