Food safety teams raided a fake honey-manufacturing unit in Gujranwala and seized 25 kilograms of fake honey, sugar and alum on Saturday. Director General Punjab Food Authority Raja Jahangir Anwar said that glucose, empty bottles, drums and weight machine were also seized during the raid on the factory located at Pindi Bypass Kabaar Market. The DG said that prompt action was taken after receiving a tip-off. He said that fake honey was being manufactured by mixing chemicals and prohibited ingredients and was supposed to be supplied in the market with attractive packaging of reputed companies.
A case has been registered against the owner for serious violation of rules and samples of fake honey were sent to Lahore for further analysis, said DG Food Authority. He said that the series of indiscriminate operations against counterfeiters is going on across the province and coordinated actions are being taken against counterfeiters in the name of nutritious food. All resources are being used to ensure the supply of quality food to the citizens, said Raja Jahangir Anwar.
