 Electricity production in Pakistan drops by 9% in DecemberBreaking

The Nepra and Topline Research report explained that Pakistan's electricity production witnessed a significant 9% decline on an annual basis in December. The data revealed that the country generated 7,626 gigawatt hours of electricity during the month, marking a notable decrease from the 8,417 gigawatt hours produced in December 2022. Despite the annual dip, December saw a 1% increase in electricity production compared to the previous month. November recorded 7,548 gigawatt hours of electricity production in the country. Looking at the broader picture, the first six months of the current fiscal year accumulated a total of 68,887 gigawatt hours of electricity production, slightly surpassing the 68,571 gigawatt hours generated in the same period of the last fiscal year. According to statistics, hydropower contributed 32.2% to the national electricity production in the first half of the current financial year, followed by coal at 14%, nuclear at 18.9%, RLNG at 14.2%, gas at 11.3%, furnace oil at 4.6%, wind at 2.9%, solar at 0.7%, high-speed diesel at 0.3%, and other sources collectively making up 0.2%.
