The Senate by-election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been temporarily halted after the Election Commission (EC) issued a stay order. According to official sources on Tuesday, the petition to stop the by-election was filed by Pakistan Muslim (N) MPA Jalal Khan. The Election Commission heard the case and subsequently granted a stay, suspending the election process.
The petitioner’s lawyer said that Murad Saeed had not been administered oath of the Senate seat adding constitutional ambiguities regarding the seat be resolved before proceeding with the election. It is worth mentioning that the Election Commission had earlier scheduled the by-election for April 23 following the disqualification of Murad Saeed. However, the latest order has put the process on hold until further proceedings.
