An earthquake, measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale, jolted Mirpur in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) in the wee hours of Thursday. According to details, tremors, which were also felt in the surrounding areas of the city like Mangla, Jatlan, Chakswari, Islam Garh and Dhadyal at 3:19 AM, spread panic among the residents, who came out of their homes reciting Kalima- e-Tayyaba. It may be mentioned here that a 5.8 magnitude earthquake had struck parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at around 9:02 PM on August 5, 2023.
According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the quake’s epicentre was Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region with a depth of 196 kilometers. However, no loss of life or property had been reported. The quake was felt in Islamabad, Peshawar, Dir, Malakand, Bajaur, Swat, Kohat, Mansehra, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, DI Khan, Mirpur, Daudkhel, Chiniot, Parachinar, Nankana Sahib, Sahiwal, Chichawatni and Battagram.
