The Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party has called upon the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir to observe August 15, India’s Independence Day, as a Black Day in the territory.According to Kashmir Media Service, DFP spokesman Advocate Arshad Iqbal said India cannot subjugate the Kashmiri people through force, arrests, restrictions, and demolition of homes. He said the Kashmiri struggle for the right to self-determination cannot be suppressed through coercion.
Arshad Iqbal said India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had made commitments to the people of Jammu Kashmir regarding their political future, and those commitments must be honored. He added that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute is internationally recognized and must be resolved as per UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The spokesman urged India to abandon its policy of force and provide Kashmiris political freedom to decide their future democratically. He said such repressive measures would only deepen alienation among the people. He appealed to Kashmiris across the world to peacefully record their protest on August 15 with black flags and convey to the international community that they will never surrender their right to self-determination.
