Keeping in view the shortage of onions and tomatoes on account of unprecedented floods in the country, the government has exempted the import of these vegetables from customs tax, there are fears that still the desired results will not be achieved as customs officials posted at the Pak-Afghan border at Chaman are demanding Rs10,000 from each truck driver transporting onions from Afghanistan to Pakistan, it has been learnt on Friday. Traders have said that since trucks remain stuck at the check-post for hours, there are fears that onions may rot. A number of trucks has been blocked at Sheela Bagh checkpost in Chaman.
