Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Taimoor Khan has ordered a crackdown on all forms of encroachments and traffic violations in the city. In a meeting with traffic officials on Tuesday, Khan said that illegal encroachments were the main hurdle in the smooth flow of traffic and that any circle in charge found negligent in performing their duties would be held accountable. He urged the initiation of legal actions against encroachers despite warnings and stressed that encroachments on highways would not be tolerated. Khan also highlighted the strict implementation of traffic laws, especially concerning violations such as helmet-less riders, driving without a license, and underage driving. He advised stringent actions against lane cutting, stop-line violations, and one-way rules.
"No leniency will be shown towards traffic violations in the Rawalpindi district," Khan said. He directed traffic officials to increase patrolling and to take strict action against violators. He also asked them to educate motorists about traffic rules and regulations. Khan's orders come after a recent increase in traffic accidents in Rawalpindi. In June, 20 people were killed and over 100 injured in a series of traffic accidents in the city. The CTO's crackdown on encroachments and traffic violations is expected to help improve the flow of traffic and reduce the number of accidents in Rawalpindi.
