June 25, 2024

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab has requested 1.42 billion rupees from the provincial government for operational upgrades, aimed at enhancing anti-terrorism efforts and maintaining law and order. The funds are intended to equip CTD with modern technology and resources for effective counterterrorism operations. Specifically, 354.5 million rupees have been earmarked for transport and 127 million rupees for advanced software, totaling a budget request of 3.812 billion rupees. Following discussions between Additional IGC CTD and the Finance Secretary, the allocated funds were reduced. Instead of the requested 3.812 billion rupees, CTD will receive 2.027 billion rupees.

The approved budget includes 908.438 million rupees for purchasing modern equipment and weapons, 981.724 million rupees for vehicles, and 500 million rupees for other operational expenses. However, CTD's request for a luxury vehicle worth 120 million rupees was denied. The Home Department's proposal was sanctioned by the Cabinet Committee on Finance, underscoring ongoing efforts to streamline expenditures while bolstering CTD's capabilities in combating terrorism effectively.
