Crackdown against transporters for overcharging passengers  launched Breaking

The district administration has launched a strict crackdown against transporters for overcharging passengers despite a reduction in petroleum prices,officials said on Tuesday. According to an official spokesperson,49 vehicles were impounded for violating newly notified fare structures, while fines exceeding Rs.223,000 were imposed on transporters. Authorities also ensured immediate relief to commuters by recovering Rs.48,500 from transporters and returning the amount to affected passengers.

Deputy Commissioner(DC),Hussain Ahmed Raza Chaudhry said fares for public transport had been reduced by 20 to 30 per cent, while goods transport rates were slashed by 30 to 40 per cent in line with declining fuel prices. He added that updated fare lists had been prominently displayed at bus stands and inside public service vehicles through panaflex banners to ensure transparency and public awareness.

 “The administration will take strict legal action against any transporter found violating the new fare structure,”DC warned. A dedicated control room has also been established to address public complaints regarding fares. Citizens can register complaints by calling 048-9230043.
