Court issues permanent arrest warrants for PTI’s Azam SwatiBreaking

September 27, 2023

Special Judge Central Islamabad on Wednesday issued permanent arrest warrants for PTI leader Azam Swati in controversial tweets case. The court said that despite the fact that the PTI leader had been declared a proclaimed offender (PO), he had been skipping court appearances for a long time. Hitherto, the court had initiated proceedings to declare Swati a PO. Judge Shah Rukh Arjumand, while issuing the warrants, ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to arrest and produce the suspect whenever and wherever they found him. It was on May 30, 2023, that a special court in Islamabad had issued non-bailable arrest warrants for PTI leader Azam Swati at the request of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

The warrants were issued after Swati failed to appear before the court for indictment in a controversial tweets case. Swati’s lawyer told the court that he was not in contact with his client, and opposed Special Prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi’s request for the issuance of non-bailable arrest warrants for the PTI leader. The lawyer for the FIA, on the other hand, was of the view that Swati did not appear before the court intentionally. Later, the court issued the warrants against Swati.
