Congress starts campaign for restoration of Kashmiri people’s political rightsBreaking

February 09, 2026

The Congress Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir chapter has launched a mass contact campaign titled “Har Ghar Dastak, Ghar Ghar Dastak” to mobilise public opinion for the immediate restoration of full statehood and to highlight the deepening socio-economic and democratic crisis in the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the campaign was formally launched from Jammu with the objective of reaching out to people at the grassroots level and exposing what the party described as the failures of the present governance framework imposed after the illegal revocation of occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.

Addressing the gathering, Congress IIOJK President Tariq Hameed Karra said the Congress has taken upon itself the responsibility of standing shoulder to shoulder with the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their legitimate struggle for democratic rights. He said the continued denial of statehood has led to excessive centralisation of authority, erosion of accountability, weakening of democratic institutions and growing alienation among the people.

“Statehood is not a concession or charity; it is a constitutional right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Karra said, adding that repeated assurances given by Modi govt on the floor of Parliament must be honoured without further delay. Karra warned that continued postponement of these promises has deepened mistrust and uncertainty. “The people have waited patiently. Any further delay will only widen the democratic deficit and further erode faith in constitutional governance,” he said.

Meanwhile, Congress Working President Raman Bhalla, while formally launching the campaign, said the “Har Ghar Dastak, Ghar Ghar Dastak” initiative aims to establish direct and sustained contact with people in every ward and village of Jammu and Kashmir to listen to their grievances and mobilise democratic resistance against authoritarian governance.
