October 17, 2023

The Ministry of Interior has formed a committee to investigate the issuance of more than 12,000 Pakistani passports to Afghan nationals. According to media reports, the committee, which is headed by the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, will also include senior officers of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). Director General (DG) Passport would be convener of the committee.

The committee has been tasked with identifying the flaws in the system that allowed the scam to happen and those involved in it. It is expected to submit its report within 15 days. The news of the scam came to light after Saudi Arabian authorities revealed that they had recovered more than 12,000 Pakistani passports from Afghan nationals. The authorities in Riyadh also informed Islamabad on this matter. The Ministry of Interior has taken the matter seriously and is determined to get to the bottom of it. The committee's investigation is expected to shed light on how the scam was carried out and who was involved.
