Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has vowed to ensure strict punishment under the law for those responsible for the rape and murder of five-year-old Ayat Noor, announcing further amendments to child protection laws to make them more stringent. The Chief Minister made the remarks on Saturday during a visit to the residence of Ayat Noor, where he offered condolences to her family and handed over a cheque for financial assistance to her father.

Sohail Afridi announced that Ayat Noor’s father would be provided a government job, while Pathan Colony High school would be renamed after the deceased child. He said a resolution would also be presented at the next session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to name the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Child Protection Bill after Ayat Noor. The Chief Minister praised the police for tracing the Ayat Noor case and appreciated the district administration for extending cooperation during the investigation. He also announced the launch of a Safe City project in Haripur at an estimated cost of around Rs2 billion.
