Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled a bold initiative to provide 1,224 flats free of cost to workers residing in Taxila and Sundar labor colonies, marking a significant step towards improving the welfare of laborers. In a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, key decisions were made to enhance workers' welfare, including a thorough review of the Labor Department's performance. Officials provided detailed briefings on various projects, including scholarships for workers, establishment of labor colonies, and healthcare initiatives. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of these initiatives, highlighting the allocation of 6 billion rupees for overdue death and marriage grants to more than 29,000 workers.
Additionally, approval was granted for the construction of two hostels for women workers in Garment City, ensuring accommodation for 704 women in Sheikhupura. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underscored the government's commitment to labor rights, stressing reforms in labor laws, occupational safety, and the enforcement of minimum wage regulations. She expressed concern over the non-enforcement of laws for domestic workers and emphasized the implementation of safety protocols and SOPs in workplaces, particularly for sanitation workers dealing with hazardous tasks. Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz reiterated the government's dedication to upholding workers' rights and ensuring their safety and well-being across Punjab.
