According to police, the officer, identified as ASI Shahzad Cheema, was part of a CIA police team that raided a hideout near Sukkur canal. The suspects opened fire on the police team, triggering a crossfire. ASI Cheema was fatally wounded in the crossfire. The suspects fled the scene after the shootout. ASI Cheema was rushed to a hospital where he died. The Punjab police chief has sought a report from the Gujranwala regional police officer and ordered to arrest the runaway suspects. The incident has sparked outrage in the area.

The locals have demanded the police to take strict action against the criminals and bring them to justice. The police have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
