A local court in Gujranwala has summoned Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to appear in person on July 28, following a petition accusing him of defaming the Pakistan Army and disrespecting its martyrs. A petition has been filed in a local Gujranwala court against Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, accusing him of using derogatory language against the Pakistan Army and insulting its martyrs. Following an initial hearing, Additional Sessions Judge Faisal Jamil summoned the JUI-F chief to appear in person on July 28.
According to reports, lawyer Manzoor Qadir Bhinder filed the petition in the Gujranwala Sessions Court seeking the registration of a criminal case against Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Additional Sessions Judge Faisal Jamil accepted the petition for hearing, issued notices to the police, and ordered Maulana Fazlur Rehman to appear before the court on July 28 to explain his position. In his petition, Advocate Manzoor Qadir Bhinder criticized the country's political culture and the double standards of its politicians.
He stated that it has become a regrettable pattern in Pakistan for politicians to praise the army and security agencies when in power, only to turn against them and launch smear campaigns the moment they are ousted. The petitioner contended that in his recent statements, Maulana Fazlur Rehman engaged in highly toxic propaganda and used derogatory remarks against one of the world's finest and most professional armies. He further argued that the JUI-F chief demeaned the sacrifices of the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country solely to serve his personal political agenda, deeply hurting the sentiments of both the general public and military personnel across the nation.
