The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that banks across the country will remain closed for three days on account of Ashura. “The State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed from 28th to 29th July, 2023 (Friday to Saturday) being public holidays on the occasion of Ashura (9th & 10th Moharram 1445 A.H),” a notification issued by the central bank stated. The SBP has announced that its offices will be closed on these days, as will the offices of all commercial banks. The federal government has also declared the 9th and 10th of Muharram as public holidays. This means that government offices, schools, and businesses will also be closed on these days. The SBP has advised its customers to plan their banking activities accordingly.
The SBP has also asked its customers to use its online banking and mobile banking services, which will be available on these days. The SBP has said that it will continue to provide essential banking services, such as the clearing of cheques, through its clearing houses. The SBP has also said that it will be available to provide assistance to its customers through its call center. The SBP has urged its customers to stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel during the Ashura holidays.
