Commenting on Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi’s advice to priorities terrorism cases, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court Dr Babar Awan urged the government to prosecute Indian intelligence agent Kulbhushan Jadhav as a first step. Speaking outside the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi on Friday morning, Dr Awan emphasized the need to focus on prosecuting “real terrorists.” A former federal minister and close aide of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, Dr Babar Awan, dismissed accusations against PTI members, asserting that there are no terrorists within the party. Dr Babar Awan argued that the cases against PTI and former premier Imran Khan would eventually end up in the "dustbin of history.” He also took a jab at the ruling political opponents, referencing the recent US election where Democratic candidate Kamala Harris lost to Republican candidate Donald Trump.
He pointed out that while there was “mourning” in certain political circles in Pakistan, he found it difficult to understand why Harris’s loss should have any connection to Pakistan’s current affairs. Pertinent to mention here that yesterday, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi chaired a meeting to review the performance and challenges being faced by Anti-Terrorism Courts in the country. The meeting was attended by monitoring judges and prosecutors. According to an official statement, CJP and others presented their suggestions for bringing reforms in anti-terrorism courts. During the meeting, it was revealed that 2273 terrorism cases were pending in the country while in Sindh province 1372 terrorism cases are pending.
