The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) seized 3,825 kilograms of drugs during a major operation in Kech district of Balochistan, an ANF spokesperson said on Tuesday. According to the spokesperson, the operation was conducted at a suspected hideout in the Josak area of Kech district following intelligence-based information. The seized drugs included 2,454kg of hashish, 1,363kg of methamphetamine (ice) and 8kg of heroin, the spokesperson said.
The drugs, reportedly valued at more than Rs560 million, were allegedly being stored temporarily at a compound before being smuggled abroad through the sea route. The ANF said the drugs had been smuggled into Pakistan from Afghanistan and were intended to be transported overseas after receiving a signal from the trafficking network. Following the seizure, the ANF has intensified its efforts to identify and apprehend members of the suspected drug-trafficking network and their facilitators, the spokesperson said.
Operations to arrest those involved are underway, the spokesperson added. The ANF said attempts to smuggle large quantities of drugs from Afghanistan into Pakistan and subsequently transport them to other countries had also been foiled in the past. The operation was carried out as part of the ANF’s ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and dismantle international smuggling networks, according to the ANF headquarters.
