May 09, 2023

Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan was taken into custody by Rangers from the premises of Islamabad High Court (IHC). PTI leader Saifullah Niazi said that the PTI chief was arrested from Islamabad High Court premises. He was shifted to NAB Rawalpindi office. Police team was assisted by Pakistan Rangers personnel. PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry confirmed the development. PTI Vice President Fawad Chaudhry tweeted that the IHC had been “occupied by the Rangers” and lawyers “are being subjected to torture”. “Imran Khan’s car has been surrounded,” he added. He said he will summon Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif if IGP and Secretary Interior not appeared in court. Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Amir Farooq sprang into action and summoned IGP and Secretary Interior within 15 minutes in court. He said it should be clear which case and why Imran Khan had been arrested. He said the act was patently wrong.
