Abbasi calls for Khan’s transfer to KP jailBreaking

November 25, 2024

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and Awami Pakistan Party leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has urged the government to shift former Prime Minister Imran Khan to a jail in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, suggesting that the move would alleviate the current tensions in the capital. While talking to a private TV Channel, Abbasi also criticized the government's handling of protests and road blockages in Islamabad. Abbasi remarked that the current situation in Islamabad was unprecedented, with containers blocking roads and major thoroughfares shut down.

He expressed surprise over what he called the government's "failure," stating that such actions reflect the government's mindset of underestimating the people. "Why has the entire city of Islamabad closed all the roads? They think the people of this country are stupid," he said. "This is the failure of the government." On the matter of Imran Khan’s detention, Abbasi suggested that if the government insists on keeping the former prime minister in prison, it should consider transferring him to a facility in Peshawar, Haripur, or another part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He added that the government should file a petition in these areas if necessary to handle the situation in a more practical manner.

Abbasi also questioned the government’s reliance on the High Court to resolve the issue of road blockages and the closure of key areas in Islamabad. He expressed his disbelief at the measures being taken to control the situation, suggesting that the government’s approach has only escalated tensions in the city. "Containers should be turned off, roads should be turned off, roads should be cut off? It is strange that they are resorting to the High Court," he stated. Abbasi concluded by emphasizing the importance of the president’s involvement in facilitating talks, arguing that the president, as a key part of the parliament, should play a more active role in resolving the ongoing crisis.
