August 28, 2024

During a protest by transporters near Tandojam Toll Plaza on the Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas Road, five police officers, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), were injured in a clash with demonstrators on Wednesday. The protest, which was against a recent toll tax increase, led to a standoff between the transporters and the police. In response, the police resorted to baton-charging and firing into the air to disperse the crowd, arresting 12 transporters in the process. The road was eventually reopened after the protesters were cleared. The protest had caused a 10-hour traffic jam, with efforts by the Deputy Commissioner to negotiate an end to the protest proving unsuccessful until police intervention.
