City Traffic Police Lahore on Friday impounded 363 vehicles during a 12-hour crackdown against one-way violations,helmetless riding,lane discipline breaches and vehicles without number plates. According to the traffic police spokesperson,strict enforcement against traffic rules violators was continuing in full swing across the city under the special campaign.
During the last 12 hours,challan tickets were issued to 1,946 motorcyclists for riding without helmets. Similarly,legal action was taken against 665 drivers for one-way violations while 299 vehicles were stopped and fined for breaching lane line discipline. The traffic police also issued challans to 298 vehicles over non-standard,tampered or missing number plates.
Chief Traffic Officer Lahore Dr.Athar Waheed said that 363 vehicles involved in helmet and one-way violations were impounded at relevant police stations under legal action. He added that courteous and professional behaviour with citizens remained the top priority however,indiscriminate action would continue to ensure effective and uniform enforcement of traffic laws.
He further said that the purpose of issuing challans or impounding vehicles was not punitive but to protect the lives and property of citizens and ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations.
