The police have placed 24 members of Punjab University student organizations under house arrest for their involvement in a violent clash a few days ago. According to police, the students have been detained for 90 days under the 3MPO. Active officials and workers of Jamiat, Baloch and Pakhtun student organizations were among those detained. A few days ago, students and university security guards were injured in a clash with student organizations. Police did not register a case because of Higher Education Commission (HEC) and University Inquiry Committee. An inquiry committee constituted to probe reasons behind the clash which erupted at Punjab University premises two days ago completed its investigation and submitted its final report to the Vice-Chancellor.
In the report, the committee recommended immediate removal of senior security officer of Punjab University. The clash erupted due to chief security officer as a security guard tried to snatch mike from a student. The senior security officer directed guards to intervene in the protest of the students. Security guards tried to take law into their own hands after getting instructions from senior security officer. The report revealed that senior security officer played the role of an anti-student group representative. The committee also recommended action against the students involved in clash. The report suggested disciplinary action against those students who are involved in attacks with glass bottles and who pelted stones.
