April 17, 2024

In a major operation against electricity theft and defaulters, the Multan Electric Power Company (Mapco) apprehended 131 individuals in the Mapco region under the directive of CEO Rana Muhammad Ayub Khan. According to a Mapco spokesperson, two significant power thieves were identified and fined a hefty sum of Rs. 51.9 lakh for stealing a staggering 2.25 lakh units of electricity. Furthermore, cases were registered against 107 additional individuals suspected of electricity theft at various police stations.

The operation also led to the arrest of three individuals from DG Khan and Bahawalpur. The spokesperson did not disclose the specific modus operandi employed by the apprehended individuals for stealing electricity. However, this decisive action by Mapco highlights the company's commitment to curbing power theft, a significant challenge in Pakistan's energy sector. It is estimated that electricity theft causes substantial financial losses to power distribution companies and disrupts the overall supply chain.
