The GPH Director announced that a royal decree has been issued approving #The_Saudi_Porticos as a name for the expansion of Al-Mataaf project at al-Masjid al-Haraam. His Eminence, the General President for the Affairs of al-masjid al-Haraam and al-masjid an-Nabawee, ash-Shaykh Dr.Abdur-Rahmaan ibn ‘Abdi-‘Azeez as-Sudays announced the issuance of a royal decree that approves the naming of the Saudi Porticos.”
His eminence also explained that the Saudi Porticos, which comprise the project for expansion of al-Mataaf at al-Masjid al-Haraam and encompasses the Noble Ka’bah, came about due to the vision and directive of the founding Imaam King ‘Abdul-‘Azeez ibn ‘Abdir-Rahmaan Aal Su’ood (may Allah have mercy upon him) in 1375 AH. Its construction and expansion continued throughout the reigns of King Faysal and King Khaalid (may Allah have mercy upon them).
Finally, it was completed during the reign of King Fahd (may Allah the Most High have mercy upon him). His eminence also added that the Third Saudi Expansion of al-Masjid al-Haraam, which is the biggest in its history, comprises the project for expansion of particos. The intent is to expand the porticos, alongside the Ka’bah level tawaaf area, to enable more than 107,000 worshippers to perform tawaaf each hour.
The General President also stated, “Through its multiple floors, “The Saudi Porticos” project seeks to provide worshippers with greater space to perform tawaaf. Likewise , individuals will be able to see the Noble Ka’bah directly from these various floors, with no impediments or visual obstrustions. Also, this project was carried out in compliance with the highest engineering standards, quality, and precision.” Ash-Shaykh as-Sudays concluded his speech by invoking Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, to grant the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salmaan ibn ‘Abdil-‘Azeez Aal u’ood, and his trusted deputy the Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salmaan (may Allah protect them both) the best of rewards for the tremendous efforts, care, and concern they continue to show for the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors.
