The Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) started the restoration of damaged street lights on Marine Drive under a modern solarization project aimed at reviving the beauty of the coastal highway. Under the project, damaged lights from Syed Zahoor Shah Hashmi Chowk to Boat Basin are being replaced with modern solar-powered street lights to restore illumination along the route at night.
According to officials, several street lights on Marine Drive had been damaged over the past few years during protests and political sit-ins, affecting the area’s nighttime attraction. The new solarization system is expected to provide an environmentally friendly and energy-efficient solution while reducing electricity costs and addressing issues such as load shedding and cable theft.
Officials said the installation of solar street lights would improve recreational facilities for residents and tourists visiting the coastal area at night and further enhance Gwadar’s scenic beauty. The solarization project is expected to be completed soon.
Marine Drive is considered one of Gwadar’s major tourist and recreational attractions, drawing large numbers of visitors daily to enjoy views of the Arabian Sea. Authorities believe the restoration project will strengthen the city’s modern image and boost tourism activities in the region.
