BEIJING, Nov 19 (INP): Pakistani  Small and Midsize Enterprise (SMEs) have tapped into Chinese market in Guangzhou, Gwadar Pro reported on Tuesday. The 19th China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair (CISMEF) in the recent week has hosted more than 400 international exhibitors from 35 countries, alongside over 1,400 Chinese exhibitors.  Among the international participants, the Pakistan Pavilion stood out with 10 exhibitors showcasing a diverse range of products including marble and onyx articles, furniture, gems and jewellery, and rugs. Muhammad Imran, Trade and Investment Counselor at the Commercial Section of the Consulate General of Pakistan in Guangzhou, expressed his delight at the positive reception of Pakistani products.

“This exhibition provides a fantastic opportunity for Pakistani SMEs to showcase their talent and expertise to a global audience, fostering valuable business connections and enhancing Pakistan’s international presence.” China’s pro-business environment and supportive policies for foreign investors have made it an attractive destination for Pakistani SMEs.  The Counselor encourages more Pakistani enterprises to explore the opportunities offered by China’s economic development and strengthen economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. Since its inception in 2004, CISMEF has evolved into a pivotal platform for SMEs worldwide to showcase products, expand markets, and foster innovation.  Over the years, the fair has attracted more than 54,000 participating enterprises and facilitated nearly RMB 1 trillion worth of contracts, playing a crucial role in boosting SME growth.

In Pakistan, the SME sector comprises over 5.2 million SMEs, representing about 90% of the country’s enterprises.  These SMEs contribute 40% to the country’s GDP and 30% to total exports, while employing around 80% of the non-agriculture labour force in Pakistan. Veteran handicraft exhibitor Kamil Muhammad, who has participated in multiple Chinese trade exhibitions, praised the opportunities of such events.  “For us, the fair serves as a gateway to the vast Chinese market, offering potential for growth and expansion,” he said.  “China’s exhibition economy is enormous, increasingly open and inclusive, and more internationalised every year. I always come back with new insights and connections,” the report added.
