Dr. Muhammad Shahbaz, founder and president of the China-Pakistan Medical Association (CPMA), has been appointed as Director of the International Affairs Department of the Shandong Tongshan Children’s Welfare and Public Welfare Development Center, a Chinese grassroots organization with special consultative status with the United Nations, according to a Gwadar Pro's report on Wednesday.

The appointment ceremony took place on April 25 in Jinan, the provincial capital of Shandong province, where Mr. Li Xiao, director of Tongshan Public Welfare, formally presented the letter of appointment to Dr. Shahbaz.

Dr. Muhammad Shahbaz, who has lived in China for nearly two decades after first arriving as an international student from Pakistan in 2006, has long been a driving force in China-Pakistan medical cooperation.

He has been instrumental in proposing the China-Pakistan Health Corridor initiative, which aims to enhance medical infrastructure and patient care across Pakistan through Chinese expertise and technology.

Upon accepting his new role, Dr. Shahbaz acknowledged the profound sense of responsibility and commitment demonstrated by grassroots public welfare organizations in China towards the global cause of children’s well-being.

He pledged to fully leverage the resources and platform strengths of the CPMA to support Tongshan Public Welfare’s initiatives in the field of international child care.

Both sides have committed to working together to advance cross-border children’s public welfare programs and jointly safeguard the healthy growth and developmental rights of children worldwide.

During in-depth talks following the ceremony, the two sides conducted practical exchanges focusing on two core areas: Sino-Pakistani children’s aesthetic education public welfare services and children’s medical assistance.

In recognition of Tongshan Public Welfare’s outstanding contributions to Sino-Pakistani people-to-people friendly exchanges and mutual assistance in children’s public welfare, Dr. Shahbaz issued a cooperation certificate to Shandong Tongshan Public Welfare, further building a bridge for deepened cooperation between China and Pakistan in medical care, education and public welfare.
