A week-long seminar on emergency management and disaster prevention for Pakistan, hosted by China’s National Development and Reform Commission, concluded on June 29, marking a step forward in bilateral cooperation on disaster preparedness and climate resilience.

According to a Gwadar Pro's report, the seminar was highlighted as part of broader efforts to realize the objectives of the Green Corridor under CPEC 2.0, advancing cooperation in climate resilience, early warning systems, flood management, urban resilience and sustainable development.

Held from June 23 to 29 in Beijing, the seminar brought together representatives from Pakistan’s federal and provincial departments, including those responsible for planning, disaster management, climate change, water resources, urban development, disaster risk financing, forestry, humanitarian response and development research.

Participants included representatives from the Capital Development Authority, the National Disaster Risk Management Fund, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society and the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics.

The seminar is expected to help Pakistani institutions strengthen national resilience frameworks, improve preparedness systems and support Pakistan’s broader climate policy agenda by drawing on China’s expertise in emergency management and disaster prevention.

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Prof. Ahsan Iqbal highlighted the need for Pakistan to improve its practices and strengthen national resilience in emergency management and disaster prevention.

During a meeting with the participants, he urged them to learn from China’s experience and achievements in disaster management.
