Karakoram International University (KIU) distributed Pak-China Ambassadorial Scholarship cheques to 76 students, providing financial assistance to deserving students pursuing higher education at the university.

The cheques were distributed at a ceremony organized by KIU's Financial Aid Office in collaboration with the China Study Centre at the university's Conference Hall, Gwadar Pro reported on Saturday.

KIU Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Razaq distributed the scholarship cheques to the recipients.

Speaking at the ceremony, Abdul Razaq described the Pak-China Ambassadorial Scholarship as a reflection of the strong educational ties between Pakistan and China and an important opportunity for talented students from the region.

He said scholarships help reduce financial barriers for students and enable them to focus on their studies.

KIU awarded 153 scholarships under the same program in 2024, including 93 at its main campus and 20 each at the Diamer, Ghizer and Hunza campuses. Half were allocated to female students.

The university awarded 130 scholarships in both 2023 and 2022. In 2022, it distributed Rs. 5.2 million, with each student receiving Rs. 40,000.

With the latest distribution, KIU has supported about 600 students through China-backed merit-cum-need scholarships since 2022.
