The Gilgit-Baltistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry is showcasing the region's business and trade potential at the 16th Xinjiang Kashi-Central and South Asia Commodity Fair, highlighting opportunities for stronger China-Pakistan trade and technology cooperation.
The major annual international trade event officially opened on August 14, 2026, at the Kashi International Convention and Exhibition Center in Kashgar, Xinjiang, bringing together businesses and representatives from China and Central and South Asian countries, Gwadar Pro reported on Tuesday.
Former Caretaker Gilgit-Baltistan Forests Minister Hafiz Sharafuddin and Maulana Hussain Ahmed are also participating in the expo, providing the region's business community an opportunity to engage with Chinese counterparts and explore new commercial opportunities.
Speaking on the occasion, Hafiz Sharafuddin described China's trade policies as beneficial for Asia and urged the Pakistani business community to make greater use of emerging trade opportunities and China's evolving commercial policies.
He also highlighted the importance of modern technologies, particularly drone-based rescue systems, saying such technology could prove highly valuable in mountainous areas like Gilgit-Baltistan, where difficult terrain can pose challenges for rescue and emergency operations.
Sharafuddin thanked the local government for providing the Gilgit-Baltistan business community with an opportunity to represent the region at the expo with dignity and respect.
