GB Scout to provide security to Diamer Basha Dam ProjectBreaking

GILGIT, May 16 (INP): To enhance the safety of its workforce, the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has entered into a strategic agreement with the Gilgit Baltistan Scouts to provide comprehensive security for the Diamer Basha Dam Project (DBDP). In this regard, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between WAPDA/DBDP and GB Scouts to provide security to the project, Gwadar Pro reported on Thursday quoting an official statement. The MoU was signed by Engineer Nazakat Hussain, General Manager and Project Director of DBDP, on behalf of WAPDA, and Brigadier Arsalan Israr Mirza, Director General of GB Scouts.

In May 2022, WAPDA signed contract agreement for construction of DBDP with POWER CHINA-FWO Joint Venture (JV).  The agreement includes construction of diversion system, main dam, access bridge and 21 MW-Tangir Hydropower Project. The project, which is scheduled to be completed in 2028-29, will have a gross water storage capacity of 8.1 MAF to irrigate 1.23 million acres of additional land.  With an installed power generation capacity of 4,500 MW, the project will provide more than 18 billion units per annum to the National Grid, according to WAPDA official website.
